It’s the Lord’s blessing that is our greatest wealth. All of our works add nothing to his blessing. How do we explain that?
Maybe this way. Let’s suppose that I am working at a job. And I’m making, let’s say, fifty thousand dollars a year. And every year, I’m very faithful to set aside a part of my income, five thousand dollars. And I put it in a bank account to save for my future, for my kids’ education, for my retirement. Year after year, I deposit that five thousand dollars in the bank account.
Then, one year, my father dies. And he leaves me an inheritance. Oh, by the way, my dad’s name is Bill Gates. And the inheritance he leaves me is fifty billion dollars. So all of a sudden, my bank account now has fifty billion dollars in it.
What would I do? I could quit work. I can do anything I want to.
But you know, I wanna still have purpose and meaning to my life. So I keep on working. I still keep saving five thousand dollars every year. And deposit it into my bank account that now has fifty billon dollars in it. Let me ask you when I deposit five thousand dollars in my fifty billion dollar bank account, am I adding anything to it? Well, literally I am. But in reality, I am not adding anything.

그것은 주님의 축복입니다 / 우리의 가장 위대한 재산은

All of our works add nothing / to his blessing.
모든 우리의 일들은 더해주는 게 아무것도 없습니다 / 하나님의 축복에

How do we explain that?
그것을 어떻게 설명할 수 있을까요?

Maybe this way.
아마도 이 방법으로 설명할 수 있습니다.

Let’s suppose
가정해 봅시다

that I am working at a job.

내가 한 직장에서 일을 한다고
And I’m making, let’s say, fifty thousand dollars a year.
내가 일년에 5만 달러를 번다고 칩시다

And every year, I’m very faithful
매년, 나는 굉장히 충실합니다

to set aside a part of my income,
내 수입중의 일부를 떼어놓는데

five thousand dollars.
5천 달러를

And I put it in a bank account
나는 그 돈을 은행계좌에 넣어둡니다

to save for my future,
나의 미래를 위해 저축하려고

for my kids’ education, / for my retirement.
내 자녀의 교육을 위해, / 내 은퇴를 위해서

Year after year, / I deposit
매 해마다 / 저는 예치를 합니다

that five thousand dollars / in the bank account.
그 5천 달러를 / 은행계좌에

Then, one year, / my father dies.
그런데, 어느 해, / 나의 아버지가 돌아가십니다

And he leaves me an inheritance.

그리고 아버지는 나에게 유산을 남겨주십니다

Oh, by the way, / my dad’s name is Bill Gates.
오, 그런데, / 나의 아버지의 이름은 빌 게이츠입니다

And the inheritance he leaves me
그가 내게 남겨주신 유산은

is fifty billion dollars.
5백억 달러입니다

So all of a sudden, my bank account
그래서 갑자기 내 은행계좌는

now has fifty billion dollars in it.
지금 현재 5백억 달러를 보유하고 있습니다

What would I do?
내가 무엇을 해야 할까요

I could quit work.
나는 일을 그만둘 수 도 있습니다

I can do anything / I want to.
나는 어떤 일이나 할 수 있습니다 / 내가 원하는

But you know, I wanna still have
하지만 나는 아직도 가지고 싶어합니다

purpose and meaning / to my life.
목적과 의미를 / 내 인생에

So I keep on working.
그래서 나는 계속해서 일을 합니다

I still keep saving five thousand dollars / every year.
나는 여전히 5천 달러를 저축합니다 / 매년

And deposit it into / my bank account
그리고 그것을 예치해 둡니다 / 내 은행 계좌에

that now has fifty billon dollars in it.
현재 5백억 달러가 들어있는

Let me ask you
제가 여러분께 질문하겠습니다

when I deposit five thousand dollars
내가 5천 달러를 예치할 때

in my fifty billion dollar bank account,
내 5백억 달러 은행계좌에

am I adding anything to it?
내가 그것에 조금이라도 더해주고 있는 겁니까?

Well, literally I am.
글자 그대로 따지자면, 더하고 있긴 합니다.

But in reality, / I am not adding anything.
하지만 실제적으로 보자면, / 저는 아무것도 더해주고 있지 않습니다.
