He said, “Oh that thou wouldst bless me indeed.” What does that mean? What does that mean to pray for God’s blessing? I’m afraid today that word, ‘Blessing’ is a word we have abused so much today that it has really lost its meaning. Whenever I read this word, I kind of think about decaffeinated coffee. You know what decaffeinated coffee is?
I went to the doctor a few years ago. And he said, “Robert, you really need to limit your caffeine intake. So I want you to start drinking decaffeinated coffee.” And so I did. I drank it. once. That’s the worst stuff I’ve ever put in my mouth. There’s no power. There’s no punch to it. What’s the purpose of decaffeinated coffee? Makes no sense at all. That’s what I think of when I think of the word, ‘Bless’ We’ve turned ‘Bless”
into kind of sanctified "Have a good day" greeting. That’s not what the word ‘Bless’ means. What does it mean? Bruce Wilkinson describes it well when he says, “To bless in the biblical sense means to ask for or to impart supernatural favor.” When we ask for God’s blessing, we are not asking for
more of what we could get for ourselves. We are crying out for
the wonderful, unlimited goodness that only God has the power
to know about or give to us.

What does that mean?
그게 무슨 뜻입니까?

What does that mean / to pray for God’s blessing?
무엇을 뜻하는 겁니까 / 하나님의 축복을 구하는 기도를 한다는 것이

I’m afraid today that word, ‘Blessing’
유감스럽게도 오늘날 ‘축복’이라는 그 단어는

is a word we have abused so much today
오늘날 우리가 너무나 많이 남용하는 단어여서

that it has really lost its meaning.
정말로 그 본래의 의미를 잃어버린 것 같습니다.

Whenever I read this word,
내가 이 단어를 읽을 때마다

I kind of think about decaffeinated coffee.
어쩐지 카페인이 없는 커피에 대해 생각하게 됩니다.

You know what decaffeinated coffee is?
여러분은 카페인이 없는 커피가 뭔지 아세요?

I went to the doctor / a few years ago.

나는 의사 진찰을 받으러 갔습니다 / 몇 년 전에

And he said, / “Robert, you really need / to limit your caffeine intake.
그는 말했습니다 / 로버트, 당신은 정말 필요합니다 / 당신의 카페인 섭취를 제한할

So I want you to start / drinking decaffeinated coffee.”

And so I did.

I drank it.

That’s the worst stuff

I’ve ever put in my mouth.

There’s no power.

What’s the purpose of decaffeinated coffee?
카페인 없는 커피의 목적이 뭡니까?

Makes no sense at all.
도대체 아무런 의미가 없습니다.

That’s what I think of
그것이 내가 생각하는 것입니다

when I think of the word, ‘Bless’
‘축복’이라는 단어를 생각할 때

We’ve turned ‘Bless”

우리는 ‘축복’이라는 단어를 돌려서

into kind of sanctified "Have a good day" greeting
일종의 성스럽게 만든 “좋은 하루 되세요” 인사로 전락 시키고 말았습니다.

That’s not / what the word ‘Bless’ means.
그게 아닙니다 / ‘축복’이라는 단어가 의미하는 바가

What does it mean?
그것은 무엇을 의미합니다.

Bruce Wilkinson describes it well
브루스 윌킨슨은 그 것을 잘 묘사하고 있습니다

when he says, / “To bless in the biblical sense
그가 말할 때, / “성서적 의미에서 축복하는 것은

means to ask for
요청하는 것을 의미합니다

or to impart supernatural favor.”
혹은 초자연적인 은총을 나눠 주는 것을 의미합니다

When we ask for God’s blessing,
우리가 하나님의 축복을 요청할 때

we are not asking for
우리는 요청하지 않습니다

more of what we could get / for ourselves.
우리가 얻을 수 있는 것을 더 많이 / 우리 스스로

We are crying out
우리는 외치는 겁니다

for the wonderful, unlimited goodness
경이롭고, 무제한적인 좋은 것을 달라고

that only God has the power
하나님만이 힘을 가지고 있는

to know about / or give to us.
알 수 있고 / 우리에게 줄 수 있는
