A Prayer of Jabez 1

The writer of Chronicles stops and he says, Now, there's one guy you need to know about. There's something special about him. Look at verse nine. "And Jabez was more honorable than his brothers, and his mother named him Jabez, saying, "Because I bore him with pain." Now Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, "Oh that thou wouldst bless me indeed, and enlarge my border and that thy hand would be with me, and that thou wouldst keep me from harm, and that it might not pain me!" And God granted him what he requested." That's all we know about Jabez. But you know these two verses tell us
three very important things about this character named Jabez.
First of all, he had a difficult beginning. He had a difficult beginning. You know, in the Old Testament a person's name was a prophecy of what his life was going to be like. Jabez's name, you know what it means? says here, in Hebrew, it means pain. We don't know what it is that brought pain into his life. But we do know he had a difficult beginning.

역대기의 저자는 / 멈추고 말합니다

Now, there's one guy / you need to know about
자, 한 사람이 있습니다 / 당신이 알 필요가 있는

There's something special / about him.
뭔가 특별한 것이 있습니다 / 그 사람에 관하여

Look at verse nine.
9절을 보십시오

"And Jabez was more honorable / than his brothers,
야베스는 보다 더 존귀했습니다 / 그의 형제들보다

and his mother named him Jabez,
그의 어머니는 그를 야베스로 이름 지었습니다.

saying, / "Because I bore him / with pain."
말하면서 / 내가 그를 나았기 때문에 / 고통스럽게

Now Jabez called on / the God of Israel,
야베스는 요청했습니다 / 이스라엘의 하나님께

saying, / "Oh that thou wouldst bless me indeed,
말하면서, / “오, 진실로 주님께서 내게 복을 주시고

and enlarge my border
나의 지경을 넓히시며

and that thy hand would be with me,
주님의 손이 나와 함께 하사

and that thou wouldst keep me / from harm,
저를 지키시며 / 해악으로부터

and that it might not pain me!"
그것이 저에게 고통을 주지 않기를 원합니다!”

And God granted him / what he requested."
하나님은 허락하셨습니다 / 그가 요청했던 것을

That's all / we know about Jabez.
그게 전부입니다 / 우리가 야베스에 대하여 알고 있는

But you know, / these two verses tell us
하지만 당신도 알다시피, / 이 두 구절은 우리에게 말해줍니다

First of all, / he had a difficult beginning.

You know, / in the Old Testament
당신도 알다시피, / 구약에서는

a person's name was a prophecy
한 개인의 이름은 예언이었습니다

of what his life was going to be like.
그의 인생이 어떻게 될 것이지 대한

Jabez's name,
야베스의 이름

you know what it means?
여러분은 그것이 무엇을 의미하는지 아십니까?

says here, / in Hebrews, / it means pain.
여기에 말하고 있습니다 / 히브리서에 / 그것은 고통을 의미합니다

We don't know what it is
우리는 그것이 무엇인지 알지 못합니다.

that brought pain / into his life.
고통을 가져다 준 것이 / 그의 삶 속으로

But we do know / he had a difficult beginning.
